10 Wild Scenarios from CrossFit Competitions (with Significant Leaderboard Implications)

One of the coolest parts of CrossFit is how young the sport is today. It's easy to forget the sport is only 15 years old (It can't even drive!) and we're still figuring things out. This includes how to react to crazy things you would never expect to happen on the competition floor. And how to score the athletes involved and effected by it fairly.  In this episode, we talk about 10 wild scenarios that actually happened in elite CrossFit competitions and the impact of each. What if chip timers malfunction during an off-site, not-broadcasted event and most athletes placements are wrong? (At a Sanctional.) What if there is a clear programming/equipment snafu (like sleds unable to be pushed on the competition floor), that is not realized until after the first heat? What if a machine's screen does not work from the beginning after an athlete starts working? (Like an Assault Runner not counting any meters 30 seconds into running. At Regionals.) What if you cannot do a rope climb until your competitor finishes their reps because they mistakenly took your lane's rope? (At the CrossFit Games. On an event cutting to 75 athletes.)  What if an athlete & judge disagree on score, by more than an entire round, and there's a language barrier, plus no broadcast footage to look through? (At the Games. For another event with major cuts.)   What if essential equipment does not show up in time for a Regionals competition with workout movements that require the equipment? (Like benches not showing up due to a South America trucker's strike when there's bench press in the programming.)  What if an athlete steps on a block of chalk—inches away from a bike fan—creating a mushroom cloud explosion of chalk dust covering half the floor? (At semifinals. We are asking for a friend.) What if a team in 11th place at the time cap for an event ultimately finishes 4th due to an irregular tiebreaker? (At semifinals.) What if it seems like there's a screen issue on a bike during a sprint event? (At the Games. Hint: the coach freaks out.) What if the pedals on a stationary bike are not functioning properly for an athlete during an event with only a single heat? (At the Games in a Masters division.)
